The XT-Series Alternators from Balmar uses the latest innovations in alternator design to deliver incredible charging power in a compact, Marine-friendly package suitable for installation in most small-to-medium sized diesel engines and most GM-based 4.3L to 8.1L gasoline engines.
The 170 Amp XT-Series alternators feature a state-of-the-art, braided wire stator design to generate exceptional output in the smallest possible case. These upgraded XT alternators produce slightly more power than Balmar's previous AT-Series 165A design and also operate 9°-18°F cooler.
NOTE – While most XT-Series Alternators feature Balmar’s Smart Ready® internal regulator technology which allows for the use of an external regulator, this particular "IR" regulator has a standard internal regulator that does not allow use of a second external regulator.
Available XT-Series mounting styles have been expanded to include this “Vortec” 9Si design found on many GM gasoline engines (in addition to 1" (Motorola) and 2" (Delco) spindle mounts, and 3.15" (Hitachi) dual foot mounts in other XT-Series Alternators).
XT-Series alternators may require a Tachometer Signal Stabilizer (Part No. 15-TSS) if your current tachometer is not adjustable.
XT-Series alternators should only be used in Dual Vee or Multi-Groove Serpentine belt configurations.
If you are replacing an alternator which does not use a Dual Vee or Serpentine belt, an available Balmar AltMount® belt/pulley conversion kit may be required to handle your alternator Power Take-Off (“PTO”) load.
