 | | | | | | | |  | | Schaefer has a reputation for building rugged, durable sailing hardware designed to withstand open ocean use, and their traveler systems are no exception. The thick walled aluminum track and heavy duty cars are designed to endure the high-stress shock loads of jibing and mainsail flogging, which go well beyond normal sailing loads. No lightweight, underbuilt racing gear here, these are open ocean systems with a reputation for withstanding the test of time. Hardcoat anodizing and Teflon impregnation reduce friction and wear. This allows the track to maintain dimensional stability and structural integrity better than lighter designs even when subjected to bending, twisting or compound curves.
Features:
Each Schaefer traveler car contains separate "wheels" that hold "captive" stainless steel ball bearings. This captive wheel design with full radius races evenly distributes bearing loads to a greater surface contact area than plastic bearing designs, thus ensuring smooth running. They also allow you to remove the car for inspection without the loss of bearings. Each car is hardcoat anodized for durability. Control blocks use Schaefer's Delrin ball bearing sheaves and some use Sure Grip Cam cleats for ultimate control. Each size of Schaefer traveler system provides you with several purchase combinations to give you the proper control needed to sail with confidence. Choose from numerous adapters allowing your Schaefer blocks to plug into the traveler car. UV treated urethane endstops absorb potential shock loads from your system. Schaefer produces traveler systems in two sizes of track: 1- 1/8" wide for smaller boats (available in 4', 5' and 6' lengths), and 1- 1/2" wide for larger vessels (available in 4', 5', 6' and 8' lengths). Custom lengths and bending by special order. High-beam track for bridge mounting is also available. Each size of track will accept 4-wheel and 6-wheel cars, depending on the expected loads. Conservative in their ratings, Schaefer provides specifications for both end boom and mid-boom sheeting. Note that although the 1- 1/2" track systems are rated for boats to 45 feet, with 4-wheel cars, they are also appropriate for smaller boats with mid-boom sheeting.
