U-4747 Primer is ideal for maximum corrosion protection of steel and aluminum above and below the waterline.
U-4747 is mixed 1:1 with U-4748 catalyst and pre-reacted 30 minutes before thinning and application.
Reduce up to 40 percent with U-1289 Spray Reducer, depending on desired film thickness, coverage, and local VOC limits.
Thinning up to 12 percent or about 15 oz per mixed gallon, allows compliance with the most-stringent air pollution rules for a high build primer.
For an anti-corrosive, moisture barrier over chemically treated aluminum or blasted steel, U-4747 is applied with pressure-feed or airless equipment to a wet film of 10-15 mils per pass.
Roller application is acceptable but less material is deposited than by spray. Several heavy passes by roller, using 1/8" foam sleeve, should be made, allowing tack-free time in between coats.
Caution: surfaces primed with these primers must be topcoated within 24 hours after sanding. This is important as exposure to the elements for extended periods before topcoating could result in topcoat-to-primer adhesion failure.
