Overview
The U.S. Union Jack consists only of the canton (star field) of the U.S. Flag. This jack was the original star-style of U.S. Naval flag, first adopted on June 14, 1777 - although the number of stars has changed over the years as more states joined the Union. This jack is flown by the Coast Guard and other federal vessels, as well as civilian vessels. (U.S. Navy vessels currently fly a different jack flag, "The First Navy Jack" which consisits of the field portion of the U.S. flag - alternating red and white stripes with a rattlesnake and the "Dont Tread On Me" motto.)
The U.S. Union Jack is flown on the jackstaff at the bow, only when the boat is in port and then only on Sundays and holidays.
