Ideal for large yachts, off-grid wind or solar, and power systems back-up, these 94 lb high capacity cells can be wired as 2 volt - 900 Ah or 4 volt - 450 Ah† units to create very high capacity, yet physically manageable batteries.
These cells represent a compelling solution for installations requiring high capacity batteries, especially high cycle life (400 more cycles than the Firefly G31 to 80% DOD), or installations with space issues - available height but restricted L x W base area.

These cells are constructed using Firefly’s unique Microcell™ Carbon Foam negative plate construction, which has revolutionized the battery industry.
Compared to the pure lead negative plates found in all (fully charged) lead-acid batteries, the innovative carbon foam negative plates in Firefly batteries are more durable and also offer dramatically higher surface area due to their honeycombed (micro cell) internal structure.

More surface area means more chemical reactions per second - for much faster charging, better engine starting performance, and deeper discharge capability.

Another advantage of the increased surface area in Firefly's Microcell technology is more evenly distributed chemical reactions - for significantly lower internal temperatures during use.
It is well established that heat kills batteries, and the lower operating temperatures in Firefly batteries result in dramatically increased service life - often up to 3 to 4 times that of normal AGM or Gel batteries!

Of particular importance is that Firefly batteries offer outstanding long life even under partial state-of-charge operation — where, due to the length of time it takes, battery charging is stopped before a full charge has been achieved.
This type of usage is typical in most real-life applications, and is a significant factor in decreased capacity and premature battery failure.
Firefly batteries eat partial state-of-charge use for lunch — no damage at all.

NOTE — Like any battery, Firefly batteries need to be charged at the proper voltage to take advantage of their long service life capabilities. The easiest way to damage these batteries is to have a high float voltage.
At 2 volts, the maximum charge voltage is 2.40V and the maximum float voltage is 2.23 volts*.
At 4 volts, the maximum charge voltage is 4.80V and the maximum float voltage is 4.46 volts*.
At 12 volts, the maximum charge voltage is 14.4V and the maximum float voltage is 13.4 volts*.
* These values are measured at 77°F - you should compensate for any temperature difference; see technical literature referenced in this entry.

Not suggested for use in applications where an outboard motor will directly charge the batteries. If you have outboard motors, you may need a separate DC to DC charger to provide the appropriate charge profile for Firefly batteries (see related products).
