Unit 0 MKIV Ocean Furler - 22 - 30 ft Boats, Toggle Sold Separately
MKIV Ocean furling systems for cruisers are engineered for strength, longevity, and ease of use. These free-rolling furlers make all the difference in headsail control by allowing cruisers to furl and reef from the safety of the cockpit, while maintaining great sail shape. MKIV Ocean furling systems offer the same quality as MKIV Racing furlers but without features cruisers don’t need.
Ocean furlers are made of hardcoat-anodized aluminum which is UV-stabilized for durability and include multiple rows of durable Torlon® ball bearings to minimize friction and make pulling the furling line easier. They feature a single groove foil and the Torlon® ball bearings don't require lubrication or special maintenance.
• Round foil shape rolls easily and makes furling easy
• Halyard swivel features a double row of no maintenance, low friction, Torlon® bearings
• Halyard swivel spins around the extrusion on a journal bearing for independent furling action of the sail belly
• Single groove sail feeder
• Features the same race and lower bearing system as the high performance MKIV Racing furler
• Easy dockside assembly with just two plastic connectors, 2 screws and some red Loctite® per extrusion joint
• Aluminum drum line guards, torque tube and swivels are deep-saturation hardcoat-anodized to stand up to abuse from errant anchors
• Drum line guard top is tough composite which doesn't dent like metal covers can
• Rod rigging requires purchase of a Harken Rod Adapter Stud which must be cut and coldheaded ("mushroomed") by an authorized rod service center
&149; Designed for use with 1 x 19 stainless steel rigging stays, only
• Required lower toggle is sold separately - see Related Products
Unit 0 Ocean Furlers are designed for headstay lengths up to 38' 7". For headstays up to 45' 7" an extra foil section and connector kit can be ordered. Please call us at 206-632-4462 for advice.
How does the furling line work?
A specially formulated low-stretch black furling line is abrasion and UV-resistant and is included with Unit 0 MKIV Ocean Furlers.
All genoa reefing furlers and certain older sail furlers are equipped with a single furling line that leads from the furling drum to the cockpit. The sail is unfurled by pulling on the appropriate sheet, causing the line to wind into the furling drum as the sail extends.
To furl the sail back onto the headstay, simply pull on the furling line to reverse the process.
NOTE – Harken Ocean Furlers are sold and shipped in 2 boxes:
