3M's black foam pads are softer and less aggressive than their other foam pads. (All are color-coded.)
They are used with polishes to remove haze and swirl marks left after compounding on painted surfaces.
Foam pads can generate high temperatures, so exercise caution if you use them on heat-sensitive gelcoat.

The snap-on/snap-off Quick Connect feature makes changing pads easy - no tools, no threading.
