These Trizact Foam rectangular sheets, enjoy all of the same characteristics and benefits of the extremely popular Trizact Foam Discs, but now in a hand sanding, sheet format.
For fine grit sanding - such as with these foam sheets - we always recommend use of a hand block or a backing pad to avoid leaving finger pressure marks; see Related Products, below.
A suitable simple backing pad can be fashioned by cutting a Scotch-Brite™ pad to an appropriate size, and folding the sheet over it.
For paint topcoat finishing, these unique Trizact Foam sheetss are the perfect follow-up to wet sanding or traditional sanding discs, prior to final buffing or polishing.
They offer the best solution for softening the 1200 and 1500 grit scratch profiles typically left after hand or machine sanding.
When repairing defects in new urethane paint jobs, use a 3000 grit Trizact Foam Sheet after you have sanded with 1500 grit sandpaper.
Follow this with the 3M Perfect-It, 1-2-3 step polishing system (rubbing compound/machine polish/glaze).
Or... you can move on to the 5000 grit Trizact Foam Sheet, so the first compounding step (above) can be minimized, or even eliminated.
By the time you finish with the 5000 sheet, you will already see reflective glosss, and thus will need only minimal compounding.
On lighter colors, you will be able to move directly to the number 2 fine polishing step.
• Use these sheets slightly wet or damp for best results — too much water will impede the cutting process
Heavy on the technical side…
Computer designed, 3M™ Trizact™ Abrasives are unique among abrasives in being constructed of sharp, precisely shaped, micro-pyramid structures which hold multiple layers of abrasive mineral particles.
These micro-pyramids are precisely and densely distributed, over the surface of the abrasive product, unlike the "sprinkled on" pattern of conventional abrasives.
As the points of these pyramid-like structures wear down, they expose fresh surfaces with new, sharp mineral — providing consistent performance.
This is in contrast to conventional abrasives, where the original "sharp" points simply wear down, leaving a dull, flat surface that produces uneven finishes.
The result of Trizact engineered construction and grain pattern is a product which:
• Is incredibly consistent in both structure and performance
• Has re-generating sharp edges — for products that last longer, run cooler, and cut faster - over the entire life of the product
• Has found an application niche in consistently producing very fine, finished surfaces
This product can expose you to chemicals which are known to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm.
