Sewn U.S. Yacht Ensign, 12" x 18"
The United States Yacht Ensign is a special flag to be flown over American Yachts. It bears a strong resemblance to our national ensign, the only difference being the fouled anchor and stars taking the place of the normal star field.
The design was not orignally intended for use as an ensign, it was created and presented to Congress by the New York Yacht Club as a signal that would exempt them from having to clear customs after each voyage.
Despite its original purpose, the practice of flying this flag in lieu of the National Ensign began shortly after its creation. Its use became widespread and it was eventually accepted, even by the US Navy.
The practice of flying an ensign in territorial waters ceased to be a legal necessity in 1980, but the tradition has continued to be practiced nationwide.
These Annin Nyl-Glo full-size, premium, all-weather flags are made from exclusive SolarGuard®-treated nylon giving them extended resistance to UV rays.
Annin uses a remarkably strong, lightweight nylon weave so the flags wave in the lightest breeze, and are quick to dry after a rain.
Unlike inferior printed flags, these high-quality, 200 denier Nyl-Glo Colorfast flags are fully sewn from separately dyed component pieces for superior color retention, durability and weather-resistance.
The fly end, which is typically the first place flags start shredding, has four rows of high strength lock-stitching to help prevent fraying and extend the flag's life. (Six rows on larger flags.)
The flag has a canvas duck heading and brass grommets (not shown).
• Brightest colors — red, white and blue fabrics are dyed separately with the best inks for rich, vibrant, fade-resistant colors for a great appearance

• Lock stitching resists fraying and tearing
• All stripes, seams and hems are sewn with long-life polyester thread
• Double-needle stitching with back-stitch reinforcement
• Sturdy, weather-resistant brass grommets for secure attaching

Annin Flagmakers —
Annin flags have been part of the fabric of America since 1847. Annin flags have draped the casket of Abraham Lincoln and gone to the North Pole with Admiral Peary. An Annin flag was the iconic flag raised by U.S. Marines atop Mt. Suribachi on the island of Iwo Jima during World War II, went to the Moon on Apollo 11 in 1969, and flies over the White House in our nation’s capital.
Annin flags are entirely made in the USA, by American workers using U.S.-manufactured materials.
