The BP620 Backing Plate will spread the rodholder working loads more evenly over the boat's gunwale than simply using washers for the rod holder mounting bolts.
Most boat gunwales are designed to handle flush mount rod holder loads with just washers under the mounting nuts. But this backing plate is cheap insurance for creating a secure and strong rodholder mount.
