Bluewater 20 Series HD Board - 4ft x 8ft x 3/8"
Bluewater 20 is a medium-density (20 lb/ft³), polyurethane foam board reinforced with layers of continuous strand fiberglass, as well as woven roving for extra stifness.
It is a lighter weight, economical alternative to the Bluewater 26 (26 lb/ft³), yet maintains substantial stiffness and a high strength-to-weight ratio.
Bluewater 20 can be used as a direct replacement for plywood.
It is typically used in semi-structural applications - stringers, decking, hatch lids, cabinetry - that are more critical than where the less stiff Nautical Series will suffice.
Bluewater 20 is available in a wide range of thicknesses - which can eliminate the need to laminate sheets in order to achieve your desired thickness.
For applications which don't call for the exceptional strength of the Bluewater Series, please see our Nautical Series of Coosa composite boards which omits the woven roving reinforcement, and is also available in a choice of two densities.
• Bluewater 20 has a high density of 20 pounds per cubic foot
• Extremely low water absorption composite panels
• Will not rot; mold, mildew, and algae resistant
• Dimensionally stable
Semi structural component
• A regular sharp carbide blade or bit is all you need to cut or drill Coosa Board
• Attach with screws, staples, or adhesives
• Excellent bonding characteristics
• Can be painted or laminated (factory pre-sanded for easy lamination)
• At least 45% lighter than a comparable piece of plywood, but with superior stiffness and strength
• Larger panels are available by special order
• Shipment by truck only; freight charges will be quoted at Checkout
• Color coded: Black
• Full sheets
Please note - Special Order items require a minimum order of 5 pieces, as they are custom set up and manufactured by Coosa at the time of your oder.
BR>Heavy on the technical side...
• Why is Coosa board better than plywood?
Coosa’s boards are approximately 40-60% lighter than plywood. They do not absorb liquids; therefore, the boards will not rot. They are mold and mildew resistant along with being resistant to insect infestations.
• When replacing plywood, which Coosa board do I use?
Bluewater 26 is the strongest, stiffest board and the most like plywood. When doing your project, use the same thickness as the plywood. If spanning 14+ inches, Bluewater 26 will always be best. However, if spanning 12 or less inches, Bluewater 20 can be sufficient.
Bluewater 26 is a structural board, while Bluewater 20 is semi-structural; since they contain woven-roven fiberglass these boards are stiffer (better flexural strength) than Coosa's Nautical Series.
Nautical 24 is a low-stress structural board; Nautical 20 is a low-stress semi-structural board, while Nautical 15 is for coring applications. Each customer should thoroughly test and independently determine satisfactory performance before commercialization or use.
A technical Test Data document is available upon request (Test Data RD 04.30.12).
• How do I install Coosa board?
You do not need to change lamination methods to incorporate Coosa boards into your application. Simply install the board as you would plywood or the material being replaced, using the same methods and tools. Independent testing should be performed to determine performance is satisfactory before commercialization or use.
• Do I have to coat the Coosa board with fiberglass?
You do not have to fiberglass the board to prevent absorption of water or liquids. However, since glassing adds strength, if you are replacing plywood in an application where you glassed it in, you should glass the Coosa board, or compensate for the loss of that strength.
• How do I use Coosa board for decking?
You simply install the Coosa board as you would plywood, using the suggestions above. Several people have simply installed the Coosa board and, using their favorite adhesive, installed carpet directly over the Coosa board. Please test your adhesive first, or see our adhesive list.
• How do I cut Coosa board? Are custom cuts available?
You simply use any woodworking tools, making sure you take the same precautions (eye protection, gloves, dust mask, etc.) as you would when cutting plywood.
Custom parts can be ordered (if the quantities are sufficient) by simply providing the CAD drawings.
• What types of resin are compatible with Coosa board?
All typical marine resins work well with Coosa board, including epoxy, vinyl ester and polyester resins.
• Can I laminate or paint Coosa board? Does Coosa board require UV protection?
Yes, Coosa board can be painted with paints that adhere to polyurethane, or can be laminated with just about any type of skin. Preparation would be the same as plywood, making sure the surface is free of any dirt or debris.
Since Coosa board is a polyurethane product, the board must have UV protection applied if exposed directly to the sun.
• What thickness and sizes are available?
Thicknesses range from 1/4 inch up to 2 inches, with sheet sizes ranging from 4 ft x 8 ft up to 5 ft x 12 ft. Not all thickness are available in the oversize boards.
• How do I determine what type of board I actually received?
Each board has a two inch colored stripe painted on opposite corners of the board. Bluewater 26 is blue, Bluewater 20 is black, Nautical 24 is red, Nautical 20 is green and Nautical 15 is white.
