22 mm Traveler Kit - 3:1 Purchase, 21 - 29 ft Boats - Refer to Table
Need to replace your mainsail traveler but haven't because the project seems too confusing and complex?
A traveler is important for safety and performance, yet it is often the most neglected, worst performing sailing hardware on a boat. These kits make replacing your traveler easy!
These kits restore (and often exceed) your traveler's original performance by taking the guesswork out of selecting the right parts.
Now, all you need to do is select a kit, an appropriate length of the matching size track, the correct fasteners, and you're done! It's that simple!
Note that if your current traveler uses Harken metric (22mm) track, and is in good shape, you can use your current track instead of purchasing and installing a new piece. Please be sure to read the Instruction Manual (below) for advice if you decide to re-use your original track.
To Select the Right Kit —
Simply take your boat's length and whether your mainsheet attaches at the end of the boom (End-Boom Sheeting) or somewhere along the boom (Mid-Boom Sheeting) and, using the accompanying Specification Table, determine if this 22 mm kit is appropriate for your length of boat. And if it is, the table will also help you determine if a traveler with a 2:1 or 3:1 purchase to move the traveler car from side-to-side is recommended.
Alternatively, you can use your mainsail's area and follow the same process. If your boat's mainsail is larger than the maximum area recommended, move up to the 27 mm Kits.
If the two methods disagree, you should defer to the mainsail area.
If the Table indicates that a 2:1 purchase system is adequate for your boat, but you prefer the ease of use with a 3:1 purchase, you can choose the 3:1 system without sacrificing safety.*
A 2:1 Purchase moves the car faster with less line pulling, but requires more effort - more suitable for racing boats. A 3:1 Purchase makes moving the car easier, especially when the sheet is under higher loads, but you pull more line and the car moves slower - more suitable for cruisers and family use.
Selecting the right track —
If your original traveler track is Harken 22 mm (metric) track and still in good shape, you can re-use that track, or select one of Harken's current metric tracks and not have to drill any new holes for mounting.
If you are replacing a non-metric track (typically with 4" hole spacing), you should consider Harken's 22 mm track with 4" spacing or their 22 mm high-beam track with variable fastener spacing to exactly match the fastener spacing of your original track.
See Related Products, below, for links to all these track choices.
Features —
• Strong, lightweight, corrosion-resistant CB cars feature free-rolling ball bearings for ease and adjustment under both low and high loads
• Anodized track
• Easy to install
• Many Harken track choices means there may well be no new holes to drill and fill
• Kits include car and end controls
• Purchase track and fasteners separately
• This kit requires #10 flat head fasteners for drilled tracks (3 per foot) and 5mm hex head fasteners for the high-beam variable spacing track (use a minimum of 6 fasteners; hex hexd bolts in U.S. sizing are not available in this size - you must use metric bolts)

Multi-hull owners should read this Manual before purchasing.
* If you are a racer and are considering choosing a 2:1 system when a 3:1 is recommended, note that 3:1 systems are rated for higher loads, and a 2:1 system may not be adequate for your boat.
