Heavy on the technical side... Woolen base layers are specifically crafted to be worn directly against the skin, ensuring user comfort by regulating body temperature and managing moisture levels. They possess excellent wicking properties (distributing moisture over a wide area), dry quickly, and allow for breathability. Consequently, it is crucial to preserve these characteristics when caring for woolen base layers.

Base layers excel at temperature regulation and moisture control; however, proper care during washing is necessary to maintain their effectiveness. It is advisable to wash woolen garments using mild liquid detergents and to refrain from using powder or bio detergents that contain enzymes. The use of standard household detergents or fabric softeners can hinder wicking properties by causing the fabric to hold onto moisture. This results in diminished wicking efficiency and slower drying times, ultimately compromising user comfort. Furthermore, typical household softeners may contribute to pilling after several washes.
