Originally designed for soft, easily scratched water-based automotive finishes, these sheets are particularly well suited to hand sanding on fragile or "green" finishes and coatings.
3M’s Flexible Abrasive Hand Sheets feel like a soft cloth sheet with a rubbery abrasive surface on one side.
We particularly recommend them for hand sanding between coats of varnish, as their incredible flexibility allows them to get into tight corners, and conform to the curved surfaces commonly found on brightwork.
Furthermore, unlike commonly used resin bonded paper-backed abrasives such as Wetordry, or gold or purple sandpapers, the rubbery surface of Flexible Abrasive Hand Sheets will never crack when folded for hand sanding — so there is never a crease, or that stiff cracked ridge of abrasive to gouge your work or leave random scratches.
3M Flexible Abrasive Hand Sheets have a non-loading stearate coating, so they can be used dry — allowing you to see where you’ve sanded
They can be used wet, however the stearate coating will eventually wash off.
Each box comes with a Hookit foam pad for ease of use, and the box is its own dispenser.
(For more flexibility, you can also use a cut-to-size piece of a rectangular Scotch-Brite™ pad as a backing.)
Each Hookit backed sheet is perforated in the middle, so it can be used on a 3" x 4" pneumatic sander.
For machine sanding, we recommend adding a soft foam interface pad, such as MMM 28324 over the pad on the random orbital sander; see Related Products, below.
