Perfect-It EX Rubbing Compound - Gallon

Use this product as Step 1 when refurbishing or repairing modern, hard automotive and marine painted surfaces.

The compounds and polishes in 3M's Perfect-It EX Paint Finishing System contain chemicals specifically formulated for paint oxidation. They quickly remove scratches, swirls and other surface defects, and allow long wet times with minimal residual swirl. Plus, their ease of clean up helps reduce total project time.

When repairing defects in new paint jobs, this "extra cut" aggressive rubbing compound allows you to remove 1200 grit and finer sanding scratches and other surface defects with a liquid compound rather than using the usual 3M Trizact 3000 Foam Blending Disc.
Perfect-It EX is designed for those who prefer to buff rather than sand when repairing defects in new paint jobs.
Compound the repair area with a buffer set between 1200 and 2000 max. RPM. For faster results, use a (more abrasive) wool compounding pad. Wipe surface clean with a microfiber cloth.
Follow Perfect-It EX #1 Rubbing Compound with Perfect-It #2 Machine Polish.

This fast-cutting, fine-finishing compound removes fine grade (P1200 or finer) sand scratches and small surface defects on marine and automotive painted surfaces. The compound works especially well on newer, harder-to-buff clear coat systems. It is formulated for longer work times, even in extreme conditions — especially important in places where heat and humidity are common inside or outside of the shop.
The rubbing compound won't become sticky during use or leave a powder or film residue that can cause rework. Yet it holds on the compounding pad, reducing the mess, waste and cleanup time associated with sling.

Heavy on the technical side...

When blending paint repairs, or during refurbishing, after you've finished leveling with a 1200 grit disc on a sander....you have two choices:
1)...You can continue disc sanding with 3000 and 5000 grit foam blending discs to further refine and soften the scratch, and then follow with Perfect-It Rubbing Compound and Machine Polish. On lighter colors you're probably done at this point, but on darker paint colors (where buffing swirl marks are easier to see) you may need to follow the Perfect-It Machine Polish with Perfect-It Ultrafine Machine Polish.
Or...
2)...You can skip additional sanding steps and use this liquid Perfect-It EX Rubbing Compound with a buffer, followed by 3M Perfect-It Machine Polish, etc.
