Perfect-It Gelcoat Medium Cutting Compound + Wax - Quart

3M™ Perfect-It™ Gelcoat Medium Cutting Compound + Wax combines medium cutting power with a durable wax for professional-grade gelcoat compounding.
The compound quickly restores a beautiful luster to scratched and oxidized boat surfaces, and leaves an excellent protective finish in one step.

This premium chemical and mineral formulation removes oxidation, weathering, dulling, chalking and scratches as coarse as P1000. It leaves a high gloss wax finish that helps protect against weathering.

Specifically formulated for boats, RVs, and industrial gelcoats. Gelcoat Medium Cutting Polish + Wax is ideal for one-step processes for moderate gelcoat refinishing when you want a final surface with a durable wax finish.

The improved formula has longer wet working times, allowing you to compond longer before you need new material. It also provides easier clean up and less dust, while using less product – even in warm climates, yet it handles well and does not clog on the buffing pad.
The one-step cut/polish/wax process reduces work time and expense allows you to spend more time enjoying your boat out on the water and less time detailing it.

Note — Contains silicone, which may cause primers or paints to "fisheye" or lose adhesion if you decide to paint over your gelcoat at some point in the future.


For DIY moderate oxidation repair, clean the surface with 3M Boat Wash, then apply Gelcoat Medium Cutting Compound + Wax by hand using a 3M microfiber Detailing Cloth.
For surfaces with more severe oxidation, after washing you may need to prep by hand sanding with a 3M Softback Sanding Sponge — use Microfine grade 1200 to 1500 (3M 02600) or Ultrafine grade 800 to 1000 (3M 02600).
Then buff the sanded gelcoat with Perfect-It Gelcoat Medium Cutting Compound + Wax using a white wool pad with the buffer set at 1200 to 2000 max. RPM. See Related Products.
Always use a dry microfiber 3M High Performance Cloth or a VERY soft rag to remove any remaining residue or sling before it dries.
