Woven roving is a heavy material used when thick laminates are needed.
The construction gives bi-directional (0°/90°) reinforcement, and the strength provided by continuous filaments.
Woven roving fabrics are compatible with multiple resin systems, and provide the most economical solution for raising glass content of laminates, and increasing laminate stiffness and impact resistance.
Roving is commonly used in boat and large mold construction.
Woven roving does not drape easily, but is strong.
• Excellent laminate properties and cost-effective reinforcement
• Excellent dimensional stability
• Regular porosity, rapid wet-out, and fast application
• Compatible with polyester, vinyl ester, and epoxy resins
E-Glass is, by far, the most commonly used fiberglass fabric. It is composed of alumino-borosilicate glass fibers and was originally used for Electrical applications.
By contrast, the much more expensive S-Glass (S for "stiff") is a higher strength formulation, and is used where tensile strength is the most important characteristic.
