ELS Shutdown System - Round Display, 5 Circuits

The ELS Series Engine Shutdowns were developed for low current, electronically controlled engines.
They feature sealed relays with gold-plated contacts for two engines, and an additional 1 - 6 auxiliary relay circuits (for generator, louvers, etc.). The ELS series are guaranteed to operate in all electronic engine applications. All ELS models will operate on 12, 24 or 32V DC boat systems.

Installation of an Automatic Marine Engine Shutdown is required by the USCG for boats with equipment that draws air from within the protected engine room space.
This is because compressed gas suppressants such as FK-5-1-12 and HFC-227ea will not stall a diesel engine, and through its air intake, a running diesel engine can suck the agent out of the engine compartment, lowering the concentration required to extinguish the fire.
Therefore, if a fire breaks out in the engine spaces of a diesel powered vessel, the engine(s) must be shut down immediately for the fire suppression system to extinguish the fire. This makes an Automatic Engine Shutdown System necessary.
Fireboy Engine Shutdown Systems are linked to the pressure switch on the cannister and automatically shut down engines, generators, and blower systems as soon as the agent deploys.


ELS Engine Shutdown Systems consist of a Shutdown Control Module and a Helm-mounted Status Display with a system Override switch. Both module and display are typically installed at the helm for easy visibility and access to the ignition wiring.
• Engine circuit relays have an operating range of 10 μA to 2 amps
• Auxiliary relays have an operating range of 100 mA to 20 amps for the shutdown of generators, dampers, louvers, and other types of related engine room equipment
• Select the model with the number of circuits you need
• Helm Displays are available with a round (DU-RBH-20) or square (DU-SBH-20) water resistant display with an integrated audible alarm, “Charged/Discharged” status lights, and a manual override switch necessary for engine re-start. Square Displays add an illumination intensity control selector button
• Displays include a 3 ft connecting cable with a molded three-prong plug for easy connection to the shutdown control module. (Extension cables (FRB B-2170-x) are available separately.)
• Additional display units and wire harnesses are available for a second helm station

The Override Switch allows the engines to be re-started after a fire-related system discharge so the vessel can return to port for repairs under its own power.

Note: The helm display unit in these shutdown systems replaces the lamp and legend display panel that comes with each Fireboy pre-engineered extinguisher system.
