The 900 UniPower is a single-speed winch that provides the advantages of a low-profile manual winch with the power of a 12- or 24-volt, low amp-draw motor, as desired.
Particularly well-suited to its task, the 900 UniPower is currently the only winch on the market designed from the start as an electric winch, rather than as a modification of a manual winch.
A resulting unique advantage of the UniPower is that the motor can be partially embedded inside the drum, so it protrudes only 4-1/8" (105 mm) below the base of the winch – a critical feature for small boats where walking head space under the cabin ceiling is limited.
With the 900 UniPower, even small yachts can now enjoy the convenience of raising sails or trimming genoas or mainsails with 900 kg of pulling power at the touch of a button. (Comparable to the power of a #40 electric winch.)
To make installation easier, Harken UniPower winches include, in addition to the winch and motor, a separate up/down solenoid control box with a built-in current limiter. See below for further details.
900 UniPower winches are available in five finishes including a durable lightweight aluminum drum, or a mirror-finished chromed bronze drum.
The Radial winch drum’s gripping surface is specifically shaped for maximum performance of each drum material, and features diagonal ribs (rather than textured abrasive materials) to maximize gripping power – greatly reducing wear on your sheets and halyards. At the same time, the ribbed surface allows for smooth, controlled easing while under load.
The patented angle of the ribs also serves to drive line wraps downward when easing to keep them on an area of drum that provides the best control.
The self-tailing mechanism allows a single crew member to quickly and easily trim or raise sails.
Features —
• 900 kilogram (1,984 lb) maximum pulling power
• Low profile motor preserves head space belowdeck
• Automatic motor disconnect when a winch handle is inserted for manual operation (46:1 power ratio)
• Accepts 5/16" to 9/19" line
• Typically suitable for boats up to 43 ft (13m) in length
• Theoretical line speed with no load is 82 ft/min (1.36 ft/sec)
• High strength composite self-tailing jaws and base skirt help save weight
• Composite roller bearings reduce friction under load and don’t require lubrication
• Stripper arm and load carrying gears and pins are 17-4PH stainless steel for strength and corrosion resistance
What's in the box...
(1) UniPower winch with motor and (1) single-speed combination solenoid control box with a built-in digital current controller (WLC200R) to protect your deck hardware by electronically limiting the winch’s maximum pull to 1,984 lb (900 kg). (The load controller used to be sold separately as an upgrade.)
The control box has terminals for analog switches as well as digital switches.
Customer must supply waterproof switch, 80A (12V) or 40A (24V) circuit breaker, 5A inline fuse, and wire for making connections. See Accessory Products, below.
17-4 PH: Info and Care
17 equals Chromium content and 4 equals Nickel Content. PH stands for precipitation hardening. This grade is known for strength and heat tolerance, NOT corrosion resistance. Though it has some corrosion resistance properties it will require routine maintenance in saltwater environments. If you use a product made of 17-4 PH, you need to follow a routine maintenance schedule.
This product can expose you to chemicals which are known to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm.
