Trilux 33 Antifouling Paint, White 1 Gal

Trilux 33 is specially formulated to be a safe and effective antifouling for use on aluminum boats, outdrives and outboards.
It can also be applied to other underwater metals, as well as fiberglass and wood.

Trilux 33 offers multi-season antifouling protection in warmer moderate fouling waters using a combination of two biocides – cuprous thiocyanate to fight hard growth, and Interlux's Biolux® (3.4% zinc pyrithione) for control of soft slime and algal growth.

Not only does the use of cuprous thiocyanate make Trilux 33 suitable for use on aluminum, it also means that Trilux 33 is available in very bright colors.

Although classified as a "hard" antifouling coating, Trilux 33 does erode very slowly, helping to decrease paint build-up as subsequent coats are applied.
This very hard ablative formulation makes Trilux 33 especially suitable for high speed boats – where it protects all season while very slowly wearing away so there is minimal paint build-up over the years.
Like other traditional "hard" antifoulings, Trilux 33's main antifouling properties result from leaching of biocides from within its internal structure.

NOTE – Do not apply Trilux 33 directly to aluminum. All metal surfaces must be primed with Interprotect 2000E/2001E Epoxy Barrier Coat, or anti-corrosive Primocon Metal Primer. See Accessory Products.


Heavy on the technical side...
While not as potent as cuprous oxide, the cuprous thiocyanate biocide in Trilux 33 is a copper compound that works in the same manner as cuprous oxide, by discouraging the attachment of the larval forms of shell fouling.
The copper content of cuprous thiocyanate is considerably less than in cuprous oxide which enables it to be used in antifouling paints for aluminum.
Cuprous thiocyanate is a white powder which means it is possible to make antifouling paints with bright, crisp colors, including white.
