Carbon canisters have been used in automotive applications for decades.
They filter hydrocarbons out of fumes vented during daytime thermal fuel expansion and/or refueling of tanks.
The canisters are then purged when fresh air is drawn into the tank during nighttime thermal contraction or while the engine is running, returning the hydrocarbon moleucules into the fuel.
By regulation, installed canisters must be protected from water and raw fuel, as both reduce their ability to function properly.
The models offered here are equipped with a heat shield for engine room installation.
• Polymer end caps welded to extruded polymer body
• Mounting bracket rotates on end cap to allow movement of mounting bracket without stressing the canister body
• Marine grade of activated carbon - for lower moisture adsorption than automotive carbon
Ordering Information:
Carbon Canisters are available in sizes ranging from 0.5L to 4.0L.
Each size offers hose barb connection options of 5/16" in and 5/16" or 5/8" out, or 5/8" in and 5/8" out.
The same configurations are also available without a heat shield if desired; see Related Products.
Canister sizing is dictated by both boat and tank size:
For Trailerable Boats
• Tailerable means all boats less than 26 ft long AND less than 8-1/2 ft beam
Tank = 000-062 gal >>> Canister = 0.5 liter
Tank = 062-093 gal >>> Canister = 0.75 liter
Tank = 093-124 gal >>> Canister = 1.0 liter
Tank = 124-186 gal >>> Canister = 1.5 liter
Tank = 186-248 gal >>> Canister = 2.0 liter
Tank = 248-372 gal >>> Canister = 3.0 liter
Tank = 372-496 gal >>> Canister = 4.0 liter
For Non-Trailerable Boats
• Non-Tailerable means all boats more than 26 ft long OR having a beam greater than 8-1/2 ft
Tank = 000-124 gal >>> Canister = 0.5 liter
Tank = 124-186 gal >>> Canister = 0.75 liter
Tank = 186-248 gal >>> Canister = 1.0 liter
Tank = 248-372 gal >>> Canister = 1.5 liter
Tank = 372-496 gal >>> Canister = 2.0 liter
Tank = 496-744 gal >>> Canister = 3.0 liter
Tank = 744-992 gal >>> Canister = 4.0 liter
The non-trailerable allowable tank volumes are larger because, floating in water, the tank is more insulated - and day/night thermal expansion/contraction of fuel is not as great.
