8-Plait- Eye Splice - Any Diameter

For many years, Fisheries Supply has been the place to go for splicing. High-tech splices, low-tech splices — we do it all. Our splicers are sailors who not only produce good looking splices but, after years of sailing, are familiar with the little details that make a splice truly functional.

For splicing purposes, rope is divided into 2 classes.
Each class has its own fiber properties and requires a different splicing technique.
Class I rope includes polyester (Dacron®), nylon, olefin, or a combination of these fibers. These tend to be the more traditional dacron and nylon lines commonly used throughout the industry.
Class II rope includes Dyneema, Vectran, Technora, PBO, or one of these fibers as a component. These are usually the "high tech" lines popular on racing sailboats and dinghies.

NOTE — Since rope deteriorates and weakens as it ages, for liability reasons Fisheries Supply can only make splices on new rope.

You will need to provide us with specific instructions about the splices and services you are ordering:   for eye splices, do you want a tight eye or loop eye splice? What type of thimble (if any) or length of loop? For cover splices, what length of cover, for stripped cover splice, what length of stripping, etc., etc.

• Anchor Line - Chain to 3-Strand (or 8-Plait)
Connects chain to braided or plaited lines

• End-for-End Splice
Joins two lengths of line

• Back Splice
Commonly used to finish off the bitter end of 3-strand line

• Core-to-Core Splice
(Inter-locking center splice or IC splice) Used to splice a thin high-tech line to a thicker polyester tail to create a 2-part halyard with "wire/rope" characteristics

• Stripped Cover Splice (03-800 and 03-850 )
Saves weight on high-tech, core-dependent (Class II) sheets and halyards (e.g. WarpSpeed) by removing the outer cover, but preserves the original structure in the tail for gripping by winches and clutches. This splice creates the transition between the stripped and non-stripped portions of the line.
In core-dependent line, all the strength is in the core

• Cover Addition Splice (03-700 and 03-750)
Adds a short, braided cover from another rope over a single braid line - typically a 12-strand like AS-78 or AmSteel - for better gripping characteristics for clutches and winches.
May also be used for extra chafe protection
For this splice you will need to purchase

• Core Replacement or Cover Addition
Allows for sheath customization for aesthetic or color coding purposes.
Can also be used to add a cover to any single braid line

• Flemish/Reeving Eye Splice
A small, cover (only) eye splice on the tail end of a halyard; used as a secure attachment point for the "messenger line" when re-leading or reeving new halyards through masthead blocks or sheaves from deck level

• Core Only Splice
To make an eye splice (e.g. for a shackle) in the stripped end of a treated core, Class II line

• Whippings - Finish the ends of lines so they don't unravel

• Monkey Fist - To add weight to the end of a line, e.g. for throwing
