The Sirius Signal C-1002 two-color electronic Visual Distress Signal Device (eVDSD) represents a significant advancement in marine safety, being the first electronic flare to comply with the new USCG safety standard, RTCM 132.00.0. This device has received official approval from the US Coast Guard, Transport Canada, and MAST. Featuring 13 high-intensity LEDs, the C-1002 delivers exceptional brightness, exceeding the luminosity of any other approved device by five times, thereby ensuring outstanding visibility during emergency situations. The C-1002 is now equipped with a practical suction cup display mount, allowing for flexible placement on any smooth surface, which enhances its usability. Furthermore, it is compatible with the Afloat Plan Home App for both iOS and Android, enabling users to control the light via Bluetooth for improved functionality.
Smartphone App functions include:
• Float plans and float plan notifications
• Instantaneous SOS notification and location to first responders, towing services and other designated contacts
• Kit includes suction cup Display Mount, Lanyard (1.5m), whistle, and daytime distress flag
• Flashes: USCG spec Morse code SOS signal in two colors (orange-red/cyan) and infrared
• 180 Luminous Angle at 50 cd for Range Plus high visibility, can be seen up to 10 nautical miles at 50 cd (candela) intensity
• Required performance specification run time — 2 hours
• Waterproof: IP69 (the highest level of protection available)
• Superior flotation due to integrated protective collar
• 8 Premium CR123 high performance lithium batteries are included (Batteries are user replaceable)
• Triple O-ring sealed
• Weight: Approximately 1.2 lbs, 1.6 lbs with batteries
• Exceeds RTCM standards
• Dimensions: 5"diameter x 8.5" height
• In the U.S., the combination of the C-1002 electronic visual distress signal device (eVDSD) and a distress flag allows recreational boaters to meet visual distress signal requirements without carrying pyrotechnic flares when operating in the Great Lakes, within 12 miles of U.S. coastal waters, or on any waterway with a passage at least two miles wide leading to the sea. Vessels less than 16’ in length are not required to carry a day visual distress signal but must still carry a night visual distress signal if operating from sundown to sunrise. This makes the C-1002 an effective alternative to pyrotechnic flares for vessels operating in these conditions.
